Volunteerism is alive and well and living in Ladonia

Kathy Porter heard that Danie Childress was going to start a summer reading program for young children in the Ladonia town square gazebo. Kathy knew the gazebo had not been attended to for several years, so she asked the council if she could do something about it. Coach Burden heard what Kathy was doing and told the senior class that it would be a good thing for them to be involved in this volunteer community service before they graduated. On Friday their last day of school the Seniors came to the gazebo and brought wire brushes, paint scrappers, hammers. and an enthusiasm that you can only tap into when you know you are making a difference. The Seniors explained to me that Coach Burden had told them about Kathy’s project and they all thought that a community service such as this would not only help Ladonia but they could put it on their resumes for college. The seniors are Keiston Champion, Danielle Fite, Cat Brummett, Cord Trujillo, Jonni K Tippit, Ivan Metzke, Jessy Sims, Brittni Scott, Jenelle Morris, German Lopez. It has been a long time since the gazebo has heard such laughter, teasing, and just plain fun. Members of the community helped with work and materials. Thank you to the following: Kathy Porter, the Fannindel Seniors, Drinda and Bryson Mead, Alderman Jan Cooper, Alderman Chris Porter, PK Kirkpatrick, Tom and Virginia Collier donated paint and lumber, the City of Ladonia, Ladonia Area Chamber of Commerce, and private citizens donated time, paint and painting supplies. Kathy Porter has also mobilized volunteers to plant flowers in all of the planters around the square. It is a fair statement that Volunteerism is alive and well and living in Ladonia.
